Data is nothing more than an accumulation of 1’s and 0’s.  Important as they may be, the ever increasing pile of 1/0’s mean nothing without the applications which will turn them into information.  The interpretation of the of the information can lead to knowledge and will drive the business.  The protection of the information will sustain the business.

Self evident?  Maybe.  Easy to understand?  Not really.
